What is a CERT (certificate of insurance)?

A document issued by an insurance company to verify that you have a certain type of insurance, typically including the dates of the coverage, type(s) of coverage included and the dollar amount of the coverage. Employers might ask for a CERT when hiring a subcontractor whose daily job functions could put them in a high-cost liability situation, like a limo driver.
